ROBERT PLANT, BRIAN MAY Among Britain's Top Music Millionaires
April 4, 2005Bloomberg News is reporting that former LED ZEPPELIN frontman Robert Plant and QUEEN guitarist Brian May are among the top 40 music millionaires in Britain, according to a list published in the Sunday Times.
Paul McCartney, Elton John and Sting dominated the annual list, which also included ROLLING STONES' Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, both 61; former Beatle Ringo Starr, 64; Eric Clapton, 60; Phil Collins, 54; Tom Jones, 64; and David Bowie, 58.
Former Zomba Music head Clive Calder, who sold his company to Bertelsmann AG's BMG, was the list's only billionaire with wealth of 1.3 billion pounds ($2.44 billion),up from 1.24 billion pounds ($2.33 billion) in 2004.
The top five music millionaires also include former Beatle McCartney, 62, with wealth of 800 million pounds ($1.5 billion); composer Andrew Lloyd Webber at 700 million pounds ($1.32 billion); theater producer Cameron Mackintosh at 400 million pounds ($752 million); and the couple Madonna and film director Guy Ritchie at 235 million pounds ($442 million).
